We don't have an HD TV yet, but an 8 year old DVD player is starting to go, though, so for $99.99, Santa said "Take it home!".
Very easy to set up, 3 plugs into the old TV, 3 plugs into the player, 1 plug into the electrical outlet in the wall, and ready to roll.
Apparently HD would be even easier - 1 plug into the TV, and 1 into the player, then 1 into the electrical outlet in the wall. Pretty much idiot proof. My kind of product. The specific type cord to use came with it, apparently that would retail for $30 alone.
What impressed me was a nicely bound instruction manual, plus a quick-step guide. In 3 languages, English, French and Spanish - BUT, each language was a separately bound manual or guide booklet. So, if you're working in Spanish, you don't put the book down, lose your place in the instructions, then pick it back up and find your place in French. THANK YOU, Sylvania!
We watched a Blu-Ray Movie on the 4 year old SD TV we have and looked pretty good. We have the same movie on regular DVD, (they came as a combo pack) there was some improvement, not a huge difference, but it's not an HD TV after all.
For the price, and ease of set-up, and use. I'm thrilled.
Anyway, I'm running my Sylvania via HDMI to a 47PFL5704D Philips 47" LCD 1080p TV. No RCA or Optical out for the audio from this tv, which just blows me away, although it has S/PDIF output, it's useless coz my Bose Cinemate only has RCA inputs. My Sylvania has RCA outputs, thank god, and I take total control of the sound curve by running it thru a Technical Pro EQ-S5200 Dual 10 Band Graphic Equalizer. I've read lots of complaints about no sound curve control with the Cinemate. Get an EQ, it's worth it.
Ok, back to the BD Player. It's quiet, I can barely hear it working at all. the fan in back runs constantly, but again, can barely be heard and is no disturbance at all. I replaced a magnavox dvd player with this thing and it's quieter than that was. It takes about 45 seconds to load a BD. I don't know if thats good or bad, but I don't mind. It does everything I could imagine wanting it to do except... it doesn't have zoom which kinda sux, then again I don't know if any of them have zoom, but my cheap dvd player had it. Anyway I'm in love with the thing and I would recommend it to anyone, but definately look around for bargains coz I didn't know how good of a deal I was getting until after I bought it and started doing research on price, I saved $110 over amazon's price. Happy hunting.
1. NO screen saver
2. NO resume
So you better be prepared to watch from start to finish or keep a pen and paper handy to note where you left off.
